Advantages

With the modernization of industry, the need for high quality expansion joints has been increasing accordingly, as designers are more confronted with the problem of dimensional changes in piping systems caused by thermal expansion or compression.
It is obvious that unless compensation is provided, excessive stresses will be induced in the piping sysytem and their forces will be transmitted through the anchors and connected equipment.
Although pipebends and expansion loops are still in use, the more mordern solution of using metallic packless. Expansion joints has obvious advantages,
because:

  1. 1) Requiring less space
  2. 2) Absorbing movements in more than one direction
  3. 3) In most pipe-size they are more economical
  4. 4) Heat and friction lossers are minimized
  5. 5) They have a higher flexibility

Types of Expansion Joint

Single axial type of expansion joint

Single axial type of expansion joint

This is a standard type of expansion joint which could be designed to suit every application.
Single axial type of expansion joint has the ability to absorb axial and lateral movements as well as vibrations and is most suitable for low pressure pipe lines.
For pipe liners having excessive axial and lateral movements and vibrations, twin bellows type of expansion joint is available.

To protect expansion bellows under high pressure, tie-rods are fittied to limit excessive movements.

To protect expansion bellows from physical damages, an external cover is fitted.
